NFT.Storage Classic originally offered free uploads and pinning services, with all data content addressed by IPFS, made available via the NFT.Storage Gateway, and stored in Filecoin. While uploads are being decommissioned, the data remains accessible through the gateway and is securely stored in Filecoin.

NFTUp is downloadable application and the Classic web app is website-based. These tools provide easy ways for content creators to upload their metadata and assets, enabling NFT assets to be content addressed, made available across IPFS, and stored in Filecoin.
The NFT.Storage Classic API and SDK offer robust tools for developers, enabling seamless integration with various NFT applications to enable NFT assets to be content addressed, made available across IPFS and stored in Filecoin.
NFT data stored by NFT.Storage use CIDs that reference immutable content, ensuring the data you access is exactly what is referenced in the NFT. The data can be accessed from the NFT.Storage Gateway, bitswap, directly in the browser using Brave, via a public IPFS gateway, or by using IPFS Desktop or the IPFS command line, with availability and speed depending on the chosen gateway.
Since launching in April 2021, NFT.Storage has established itself as a de facto public good for NFTs, supporting over 165,000 users and managing 660 TB of data. Our journey has been driven by a commitment to providing free, resilient, and accessible decentralized storage solutions for off-chain NFT data.
Starting June 30, 2024, at 5 PM EST, the original NFT.Storage Classic will no longer accept new uploads. This includes the NFT.Storage web app, API, SDK, NFTUp, and the Pinning API. While all existing data uploaded before this deadline will continue to be safely stored and accessible via the NFT.Storage Gateway, IPFS and the Filecoin Network, latency and availability may degrade over time.
Therefore, we encourage users to copy their data to ensure continued hot storage that meet your performance expectations.
We’ll be working with the newly formed NFT.Storage community to determine what changes, if any, NFT.Storage Classic data latency and availability will be impacted in the future. We will keep you informed by email and on Twitter/X. Follow us and join the community conversation by becoming an NFT.Storage member today.
